I would just buy bottled water until you can get a filter.
boil it, then refridge it….
boiling the water kills any germs and bacteria in the water.
with out a filtration system, i don’t think you can.
It already is clean enough
get a new fauset
Boil the water.
i have a bonsi tree and i use boiled water from the kettle that has been left to go cold, or rain water
run it through a sock. the sock is a make shift filter it makes dirty water clean (use a clean sock of course)
tap water is always clean…………at least in nyc it is
boil it, then refridge it…. until you can get some $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $
Tap water is far, far cleaner and has far stricter standards than bottled water. It’s also far, far cheaper. Sellers of bottled water are taking you for a ride.
There are plain filters on Water vases that you can get from target. If you absolutlely need one and don’t have money email me and we’ll figure something out. Everyone needs water…
isnt it ALREADY clean? if it wasnt, why isnt everyone sick from drinking tapwater?
I dunno, where my mom lives, her tap water is really clean. My tap water is gross. But yea. most tap water is clean .
Good luck!
You can boil the water and collect the condensation from the steam. That will essentially be distilled water.
A sneaky idea might be to take a water bottle somewhere that you know has a clean drinking fountain. Fill it up and bring it home for your fly trap!
Good luck!
BOIL THE WAHTER IT WILL PERIFIE AND MAKE IT CLEEN THEN WAIT 30 MINS TO COOL DOWN THEN WAHTER YOUR PLANT
Read your water report. Local water utilities are required to send annual “consumer confidence reports” to all homes. Contaminants can include:
* Trihalomethanes (THMs), may increase the risk of cancer, miscarriage and birth defects, and damage the liver, kidneys and nervous system.
* Atrazine, a weed killer, is a suspected hormone disruptor.
* Coliform bacteria, may indicate the presence of dangerous microbes.
* Lead can damage developing brains and nervous systems.
2. Test drinking water for lead (828-251-6800,
http://www.leadtesting.org); for more lead-reducing water filters, including Brita carafes, see thegreenguide.com.
3. Filter if contaminants are found. The faucet-mounted Pur Ultimate FM-4010L reduces lead, THMs, microbes, atrazine, chlorine, mercury and some petrochemicals.
You really cant with household items.
In order to get tap water clean is with many filters
Tap water has many minerals and lead in them.
You can call your local water company to get your pipes purified for drinking.
Installation inside the pipes will filter out those harmful things inside tap water.
to the person who said to get bottled water, the plastics are horrible for the environment and for you. They don’t wash the bottles after they mold them so the toxins from the plastics are on the inside of the bottle and when the water is added the toxins will mix with that and enter your body when you drink them.
You can probably improve it somewhat by filtering it through several layers of paper towel.
If it’s municipal water, it has to conform to certain hygiene standards, so you can request that the municipality clean it up for you.
If it’s for a fly trap I don’t think it’s all that critical, though.
Let it sit overnight so some of the chemicals evaporate and then filter it through a cloth.

You need a good water filter, otherwise go to a water store. There’s lots of water stores here in los angeles. I used to work for a salesman that sold water filters, and learned a lot about water.
As for the guy here who says the city tap water is safe to drink well you have to remember that water is tested at the treatment plant, after it goes through all those underground pipes it gets dirty.
I remember we sold some filters to some people living in an apt building here in los angeles, after a few months they called us and complained that the filters weren’t working. We went out and took them apart and found that they were plugged up.
The filters were filled with this stuff that looked like mud and it was brownish red in color. I guess the red stuff was rust from the pipes. Anyway we put some of the filters inside plastic bags and took them with us on sales calls. We would show them to people and tell them this is what you drinking.
The venus fly trap needs to have water with a TDS (total dissolved solids) measurement of 50 PPM or less. Most tap water won’t meet this standard, even if it is run through a filter like Brita. Boiling the water, or setting it out will not fix this. You basically have 3 options for cleaning the water before using it to your plant:
1) Buy distilled water – You should be able to buy distilled water by the gallon from any major supermarket store like Wal-mart, Target, etc. This water will have a TDS measurement of 0 PPM. In other words it is pure water.
2) Use rain water. If you can devise a way of collecting rainwater, it is cheap and rain water has a very low TDS measurement.
3) Get a reverse osmosis unit. RO units will remove most of the TDS in water, but they are somewhat expensive.
